Rules and Etiquette
Thank you for being part of the CEDIA Community. To ensure the best possible experience for all members, we have established some basic guidelines for participation.
We understand that the world and our members are becoming more social and connecting online. As such we encourage all to participate in our online community. CEDIA hosts several pages on public tools such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube along with the CEDIA Community, our private members’ only social network. All of these platforms are great tools to get the advice of your peers, learn from their experience, and participate in an ongoing conversation. By participating on social platforms that are CEDIA branded, you agree that you have read and will follow these rules and guidelines.
Please take a moment to acquaint yourself with these important guidelines. If you have questions about these guidelines, tools or about CEDIA, please reach out to our membership team at member@cedia.org or 800.669.5329.
In order to preserve a climate that encourages both civil and fruitful dialogue, CEDIA reserves the right to suspend users, delete posts or terminate accounts for members who violate these rules.
The Rules
⦁ Don’t attack others. The discussions on the community platforms are meant to stimulate conversation not to create contention. Let others have their say, just as you may.
⦁ Collecting member information for the purpose of solicitation or "spamming" will not be tolerated. Persons found in violation of this policy may have their CEDIA Community access removed.
⦁ All defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, offensive, or illegal materials are strictly prohibited and may be removed.
⦁ Post your message or documents only to the most appropriate lists or libraries. Do not spam several lists or libraries with the same message.
⦁ Do not post anything that you would not want the world to see or that you would not want anyone to know came from you.
⦁ Do not post any material that contains false or fraudulent information.
⦁ Messages should not contain promotional material, special offers, job postings and offers, product announcements, or solicitation for services.
⦁ Use caution when discussing products. Information posted on any platform is available for all to see, and comments are subject to libel, slander, and antitrust laws.
⦁ Please note carefully all items listed in the disclaimer and legal rules below, particularly regarding the copyright ownership of information posted to the Community.
⦁ Remember that CEDIA and other participants have the right to reproduce postings.
Community Etiquette
⦁ Be on topic: Information shared should relate to the purpose of the specific community. Please state concisely and clearly the topic of your comments in the subject line to allow community members to respond appropriately to your posting and search the archives by subject.
⦁ Take responsibility: Messages posted on CEDIA communities are the sole responsibility of the author. If you post documents of other materials, please be sure that you have the right to do so and that another individual or organization does not hold the copyright.
⦁ Take pride in your contributions to the profession: Given the value of information and resources shared within communities, CEDIA retains the exclusive right to distribute and archive any information posted to public communities and to create related resources collections deemed of value to CEDIA members.
⦁ Share publicly, thank privately: Send messages such as "thanks for the information" or "me, too" to individuals -- not to the entire community. Do this by using the "Reply to Sender" link to the left of every message.
⦁ Minimize clutter: Include only the relevant portions of the original message in your reply. Delete any header information, and put your response before the original posting.
⦁ Don't cross-post: Remember that there is overlap in community membership, so there is no need to send a message to all or multiple communities.
⦁ Be Transparent: It is very important to gain trust in online relations, therefore be clear who you are and who you work for when posting on any platform. This means including your real name on your accounts along with disclosing your employer and using a profile picture of your likeness not you company's logo.
